    Hampshire Yeomanry (Carabiniers) Full Dress Uniform of Major F D E Baring, The Right Honourable The Lord Ashburton, fine full dress uniform in dark blue cloth, white collar, cuffs with heavily bullion embroidered cuffs and lace to the collar. Officers knotted shoulder boards with bullion rank crowns. Gilt metal Victorian crowned regimental tunic buttons. Interior with padded quilted lining which shows some wear. Interior with tailors label having inked name. Accompanied by matching officers trousers. Set remains in generally good condition. Frances Denzil Edward Baring succeeded to the title ofBaron Ashburton, of Ashburton, Devon, on 18 July 1889 and took his seat in theHouse of Lords. He was an officer in theHampshire Yeomanry(Carabiniers), where he was appointed aLieutenanton 17 August 1901, promoted toCaptainon 6 December 1902, and ended asMajor. In 1891, Baring was appointed to be aDeputy Lieutenantof the County of Southampton. One of Britain’s foremost yachtsmen, Lord Ashburton died of a heart attack aboard the RMS Queen Mary on 27 March 1938. Late Rod Flood collection.

Interior with tailors label having inked name. Accompanied by matching officers trousers. Set remains in generally good condition. Frances Denzil Edward Baring succeeded to the title ofBaron Ashburton, of Ashburton, Devon, on 18 July 1889 and took his seat in theHouse of Lords.     British Officers Frockcoat of General Hubert H S Morant DSO, Colonel of the Durham Light Infantry and Veteran of the Sudan Campaign, fine quality dark blue frock coat with regimental officers tunic buttons, bullion embroidered collar badges and medal ribbons to the breast for the campaign in the Sudan and the Delhi Durbar. Bullion rank crown to the shoulder strap for a Major and named to him to the inside collar. Overall a fine condition example. Born 27th December 1870 son of Lieutenant General Horatio Harbord Morant of Blendworth Lodge, Horndean, Hants by his wife Katherine Selena, only daughter of Francis Alexander Sydenham Locke of Rowdeford, Wiltshire. He was educated at Weymouth College, Charterhouse and Sandhurst. He married on December 5th 1914, his wife was Isabella Helen daughter of John Coppin-Straker of Stagshaw House, Corbridge. Military Career;- 2nd Lieutenant DLI, 16th October 1889;- Lieutenant 19th November 1892;-Captain 9th August 1899;-Major 23 May 1910;-Temp Lieutenant Colonel 10th DLI 19th August 1914 to 28th January 1918;- Lieut Colonel 7th January 1919;- To Half Pay List 7th January 1923 until May 7th 1924;- Resumed Full Pay 7th May 1924;-Retired with the rank of (Hon) Brigadier General 27th December 1927. Appointed (Hon) Colonel of 5th DLI (TA) Northumberland Fusiliers on the 6th October1928 until 31st January 1938;-Appointed Colonel The Durham Light Infantry 14th September 1937 until 12th April 1940. Additional;- attached to the Egyptian Army from the 9th March 1898 until 28th March 1908;-Commander 3rd Infantry Brigade (France, temporary Brigadier General) from the 4th September 1918 until 30th March 1919. Commanded the 2nd DLI 7th January 1919-28th April 1919; 1st DLI 29th April 1919 to 6th January 1923;-Brigade Commander Northumberland Brigade (TA) Northern Command 7th May 1924 to 26th December 1927. He served in Kitchener’s Sudan campaign in 1898 and was present at Atbara and the capture and defence of Gaderef. He was mentioned in despatches announced in the London Gazette on 9th December 1898 and awarded the Queens Sudan Medal, Khedive’s Sudan Medal with Clasps, Order of the Medjidie 4th Class, Order of Osmanieh 4th Class. Served in the European War raised and commanded 10th Service Battalion DLI served the following periods in France and Belgium 21 May1915-24th Aug 1915; 5th March 1916-5th June 1918; 29th August 1918-11November 1918 wounded. on four occasions mentioned in desptaches. Died at the Hermitage, Hexham, Northumberland on the 20th September 1946.

    British Boer War Full Uniform, Headdress and Equipment Mannequin of a Private in the 2nd Battalion ‘F’ Company Hampshire Regiment Mounted Infantry, fine khaki four pocket tunic with high collar. Brass post 1902 general service buttons. Brass Hampshire regiment (rose) collar badges and brass HANTS shoulder titles. KD other ranks trousers with khaki putties and black leather boots with stirrups. Complete with a rare early Boer War period enlisted ranks felt slouch hat with cloth pagri and brass 2/MI headdress badge. The set is mounted onto a museum display mannequin with a full set of leather equipment, including cavalry ammunition bandolier, early pattern felt covered water bottle with leather harness and strap, pistol holster with leather cross strap having loops for spare ammunition. Brown leather map / document case with shoulder strap. Enamel drinking cup and heliograph mirror in circular tin. The mannequin is mounted onto a moveable museum display stand. We have not removed any items from this display. We are not able to offer in house post and packing on this lot as it stands, specialist shipping or personal collection recommended. Interior with black quilted cloth lining. Some fading and wear with discolouration to the green cloth body of the tunic.

    WW1 British Royal Engineers Staff Colonels Uniform, consisting of four pocket service dress tunic with regimental tunic buttons. Gorget collar patches and rank insignia to the shoulder straps. Above breast pocket is medal ribbon bar for the Military Cross and 1914-15 star. Single bullion wound stripe to one sleeve and four years overseas service chevrons to the other. Attached to the arm is staff officers wool armband. Interior of the tunic with lower shell dressing pocket. Collar with tailors label having inked name of the original owner, but this is not clear. Tunic is accompanied by his original staff colonels peaked cap with bullion wire to the peak, bullion embroidered cap insignia, thin patent chinstrap and gilt metal side buttons. Cap is complete with the original khaki cloth cover. Interior with tan leather sweatband and crimson cloth lining. Some mothing to the central band. Also comes with officers Sam Browne belt and cross strap.

RE brass shoulder titles and felt white over blue signallers arm bands, signallers trade badge and chevron to the lower sleeve. Other sleeve with three overseas service chevrons. British war medal and allied victory medal ribbon above the breast pocket indicating wear in the Post WW1 years, probably as part of the army of occupation. Partial white lined interior to the tunic. Generally a good example.
