The Haus Elephant, was an exclusive hotel in the city of Weimar and was a particular favourite of Adolf Hitler and other leading personalities of the Third Reich when visiting the city. In 1937, the hotel was remodelled so that Hitler could addressed the crowds from a viewing balcony. Many photographs exist of the personalities of the regime at the hotel during this time.Provenance: This set was purchased by the current vendor in the 1970’s in Weimar, which was part of the old East Germany. The set was taken in 1945 by a local antique dealer and was hidden away from the advancing allied forces. The set was sold to our vendor in secret and had to be smuggled out of the former East Germany at the time. This is the first time the grouping has been offered on the open market.
