#59 – Third Reich SS (Schutzstaffel) Enlisted Ranks Sword by Carl Eickhorn, Solingen (Лот: 7248)
Third Reich SS (Schutzstaffel) Enlisted Ranks Sword by Carl Eickhorn, Solingen, being an army pattern enlisted ranks dove head type sword with SS runes etched to the langet, steel fittings with celluloid grip having wire binding. Reverse of the langet stamped ‘S.D. 540’. Housed in the blackened curved scabbard. Curved polished blade which is etched with the SS motto ‘Meine Ehre heist Treue’ and with Carl Eickhorn makers trademark to the base. The bottom section of the blade is well worn without polish. Blade 84 ¾ cms, overall 102cms. Wear to the exterior fittings with plating loss and small dents to the scabbard. Various designs and styles of these swords were produced in the early stages of the Schutzstaffel before the introduction of the standard SS sword degen. Queens South Africa Medal to the Royal Army Medical Corps, medal with 5 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902, impressed naming, ‘14870 PTE. W. MATTHEWS R.A.M.C.’ unofficial rivets between Orange Free States clasp and Transvaal clasp. alter Matthews is confirmed on the roll compiled at No.8 Field Hospital at Bloemfontein and is entitled to these 5 clasps. He also served in the Great War with 4th Field Ambulance qualifying for a 1914 Star trio.

Victorian Scottish 72nd Highlanders Officers Plaid Brooch, produced in silver (not hallmarked) finely engraved with Ducal crown over scroll with ‘HINDOOSTAN’, scrolls and thistle sprays, lower scroll with ‘CAPE OF GOOD HOPE’. The centre set with facetted glass foiled citrine. Large double pin fixing and catches to reverse. Very fine example.

Curved polished blade which is etched with the SS motto ‘Meine Ehre heist Treue’ and makers trademark to the base. Blade 83 ½ cms, overall 98cms. Well worn exterior and staining / rusting to the blade. Victorian Boer War Campaign Medal Pair to a Recipient Who Served for 21 Years in the Royal Army Medical Corps Before Being Commissioned in 1917, Queens South Africa medal with clasp Cape Colony, impressed naming, ‘11024 L.CPL. W. CATHERALL R.A.M.C.’, Kings South Africa medal with 2 clasps, South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902, ‘11024 CORPL: W CATHERALL R.A.M.C.’, with contact marks to the obverse from wearing. allace Catherall from Dorking in Surrey attested for the Medical Staff Corps on 6th March 1896. He spent 2 years and 259 days in South Africa serving with No.1 General Hospital. Both medals with these clasps are confirmed on the relevant rolls. He continued serving through into the Great War and landed in France on 14th August 1914 qualifying for a 1914 Star trio. In November the same year he was awarded his Army Long Service and Good Conduct medal. He was commissioned as Lieutenant & Quarter Master in the Royal Army Medical Corps on 14th April 1917, having served 21 years and 40 days in the Ranks.
