#323 – Historically Interesting British Translation of the Waffen-SS Panzer Grenadier Reserve and Replacement Battalion Nr16 War Diary for the Battle of Arnhem 17th September 1944 – 7th October 1944 (Лот: 8915)
Historically Interesting British Translation of the Waffen-SS Panzer Grenadier Reserve and Replacement Battalion Nr16 War Diary for the Battle of Arnhem 17th September 1944 – 7th October 1944, an extremely interesting and historical document which is an English translation by the War Office in 1945, of the official war diary of the Waffen-SS unit written by SS-Sturmbannführer Sepp Kraft, which faced the British Airborne division during Operation Market Garden / The Battle of Arnhem. Front cover with inked details ‘SSPZ. GREN.A.u.E.Btl.16 in den Kämpfen bei ARNHEIM 17.9.44 – 7.10.44’ with black SS runes over blue Pegasus emblem of the British Airborne division. The 31 page account has full typed details of the account of the unit during the battle and with coloured fold out maps. The account gives an interesting first hand description from the German perspective of one of the most famous actions in WW2. The account details specific events in the battle and also the involvement of Dutch resistance and the treatment of Dutch volunteers in the Waffen-SS. Interesting information about the prisoners of war and their conduct. Sadly some water damage and torn pages towards the end of the folder but still a very interesting item. t is believed that a handful of these reports were produced by the War Office and given to commanders who were heavily involved in the Allied Airborne operation.
