Scarce Victorian 78th (or The Ross-shire Buffs) Highlanders Officers Shoulder Belt Plate Pre-1859, rectangular seeded gilt plate with burnished edges, mounted with a silver Victorian crowned laurel sprays with Elephant over ’78’ to the centre. Above the crown, a silver scroll battle honour for ‘CUIDICH’N RHI’, bottom of the plate has battle honour scrolls for ‘MAIDA’, ‘ASSAYE’ and ‘JAVA’. Reverse retains original two hooks and two studs fittings. Remains in generally good condition.

A Territorial Long Service Medal Pair to the Royal Army Medical Corps, Victory medal, ‘1871 PTE. E.A. WILLIS R.A.M.C.’, Territorial Force Efficiency medal. GV, ‘419050 PTE. E.A. WILLIS R.A.M.C.’ Edward Albert Willis, from Knighton Field, Leicester, attested for service in the Royal Army Medical Corps on 4th April 1912. He served with 1/2nd North Midlands Field Ambulance landing in France on 28th February 1915. Served in France for 2 years and 10 months before returning to the UK and joining ‘H’ Company (TF) RAMC Depot. Discharged to Class Z Reserve on 25th February 1919. His Territorial Force Efficiency medal was announced in Army Orders in May 1921, he is also entitled to a 1914-15 star and British War medal.

Third Reich Transitional SS (Schutzstaffel) Dress Dagger by J A Henckels, Solingen, good example of a transitional pattern RZM dress dagger with grip having aluminium eagle and enamel SS runes. Typical RZM plated fittings to the grip mounts and the scabbard mounts. Double edged blade with motto ‘Meine Ehre heist Treue’, reverse with J A Henckels trademark and RZM ’15/38′ and SS runes. The blade measures 22cms, overall 37 ½ cms. Some wear to the exterior fittings which is typical of RZM pieces. The transitional SS daggers are much harder to find than those of the SA.

Queens South Africa Medal to the Royal Army Medical Corps, medal with 3 clasps, Cape Colony, South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902, impressed naming, ‘16332 PTE. H.J. YOUNG R.A.M.C.’ orn in Brighton, 20-year-old Henry John Young was living in London when he attested for the Royal Army Medical Corps on 23rd October 1901. He served for 351 days, including 332 days in South Africa, before his discharge on 8th October 1902. The medal and all 3 clasps are confirmed on the medal roll.

Victorian Scottish 71st Highlanders Officers Shoulder Belt Plate Pre-1881, gilt rectangular plate mounted with silver French horn with ’71’ to the centre. Reverse retains original two hooks and two studs fittings. Remains in very good overall condition. 71st Highlanders later became 1st Battalion Highland Light Infantry on 1st July 1881.

HOLLIDAY R.A.M.C.’ Fred Holliday from Rawcliffe, Yorkshire was discharged to class Z Army Reserve on 27th November 1919. Also entitled to a Victory medal.

Double edged blade with motto ‘Meine Ehre heist Treue’, reverse with Robert Klass trademark and RZM ‘M7/37 RZM 1051/39’ and SS runes. Couple of nicks to the edge of the blade. The blade measures 22cms, overall 37 cms. Some wear to the exterior fittings which is typical of RZM pieces. The transitional SS daggers are much harder to find than those of the SA.

Victorian 72nd (Duke of Albany’s Own) Highlanders Officers Shoulder Belt Plate 1830-1855, fine rectangular die stamped silvered plate with raised design, crowned thistle wreath with ’72’ to centre and title scroll above, below with ‘OWN HIGHLANDERS’. Reverse with two hooks and stud fittings, also an old leather backing cover. Some evidence of cleaning to the front of the plate.
