The cross has the makers plaque attached to the lower part of an oak leaf wreath. The star shows an old inventory number drawn onto the reverse.An early WWI issued set in immaculate condition. As usual there is chipping on the blue enamel on various cross arms. Avers applications are separately attached to the silver star body. Makers plaque from Eduard Quellhorst on the reverse. Double needle for wear.

According to Werner Sauer 68 decorations were awarded. Sauer had published the names and dates of all awardees.Even with that small shortcoming an almost unrecoverable gem for any Napoleonic medal collection

The star is one of those rare and original order decorations awarded during the Great War. It is one of those extremely rare finds. Besides a few issues with the enamel and “upgraded” hardware on the reverse (see images) a very handsome example of the G.A.Scharfenberg craftsmanship.
