#179 – A Poignant, Impressive and Possibly Unique Memorial to Lance Corporal Paul Scheltema Lampard, Honourable Artillery Company, Killed in Action 7th February 1915 (Лот: 10245)
A Poignant, Impressive and Possibly Unique Memorial to Lance Corporal Paul Scheltema Lampard, Honourable Artillery Company, Killed in Action 7th February 1915, this large marble head and shoulders bust sculpture of a private in uniform of the HAC, with lower tablet to the base detailing it to be of Lance Corporal Paul Scheltema Lampard who was killed in 1915, the reverse of the sculpture has artists details of ‘T. TARPAN 1916’. The sculpture stands cms. Small area of repair to the nose but a very impressive item, which at the time of its creation I am sure would have been of quite some expense to his family. Lance Corporal Lampard served with the Honourable Artillery Company in France from 1914 until he was killed in action on 7th February 1915, being buried at Kemmel Chateau Military cemetery, Belgium. He was the son of businessman Mr Charles Arthur Lampard, known as the ‘Rubber King’ at the time due to his involvement in the importation of rubber products into the United Kingdom, said at the time of his death, just one year after his son, to have been a millionaire. The family home was Holme Park, near Rotherfield, Sussex. Mr Lampard was also a prominent director in the tea firm of Harrison & Crosfield. This memorial we would assume was commissioned by his father before he passed away as a memorial to his fallen son. Please note this lot is extremely heavy, we are not able to offer in house post and packing on this lot. Personal collection or specialist shipping only. Due to its size and weight, we would suggest not suitable for bidders outside the UK unless they can make personal collection.
