Queens South Africa Medal to the Royal Army Medical Corps, medal with 3 clasps, Cape Colony, South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902, impressed naming, ‘16332 PTE. H.J. YOUNG R.A.M.C.’ Born in Brighton, 20-year-old Henry John Young was living in London when he attested for the Royal Army Medical Corps on 23rd October 1901. He served for 351 days, including 332 days in South Africa, before his discharge on 8th October 1902. The medal and all 3 clasps are confirmed on the medal roll.

Impressive Imperial German Blue Gilt and Damascus Presentation Garde Officers Grosser Hilt Sword, superb quality officers sword with Groser pattern lion head pommel with red jewelled eyes, heavy chiselled relief to the knuckle guard leading to the large langet having enamelled Garde starburst emblem. The reverse of the langet is engraved with the initials of the original owner. Large lion head finial to the cross guard. Shagreen grip with wire binding. Housed in its large steel scabbard with gilt brass bands and hanging rings. The thick deluxe piped back blade with Damascus and engraved with blue and gilt panels, the obverse ‘Wilhelmi s/r Vogt, Engers 1892’, reverse with trophy of arms and ‘Damaststahl Eisenhauer’. Spine of the blade also in gilt, engraved with oakleaves and ‘OTTO MERTENS, SOLINGEN’. Blade 84cms, overall 107cms. A superb example of a presentation sword with an impressive quality hilt.

Waterloo Medal to a Sergeant in the 23rd Regiment of Foot, the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, 1815 Waterloo medal, steel clip and ring suspension, ‘SERJ. THOMAS DAVIS 23RD REGIMENT FOOT, R.W.F.’Accompanied by period miniature of the medal. 20-year-old Thomas Davis from Shrewsbury enlisted on 5th April 1801. Promoted to Corporal on 25th June 1804 and Sergeant on 14th August 1806 he was discharged to pension as Colour Sergeant on 18th December 1818 having served for 20 years and 169 days. At Waterloo he was in Captain Farmers Company.

Queens South Africa Medal to a Recipient in the Royal Army Medical Corps, medal with 3 clasps Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal, impressed naming, ‘13211 PTE W.G. CLEMENT R.A.M.C.’, edge bruise at 6 o’clock position. William George Clement from Holybourne in Hampshire attested for the Royal Army Medical Corps on 19th February 1900. Transferred to the Reserve on 18th February 1908 he was remobilised on 5th August 1914 serving until he transferred to Class Z Army Reserve on 4th February 1919. Medal and 3 clasps is confirmed ion the medal roll, he is also entitled to the Kings medal and a 1914 Star trio for his service in the Great War.

William Greer, medal and clasp confirmed on the roll to the 61st Regiment with the comment ‘Died 11 June 1858’. Please note that transcribed copies of the medal roll have him listed as William Green but he is shown as Greer of the original copy of the roll.

Deluxe Model Imperial German Naval Officers Dagger with Damascus Blade, fine example with Imperial Crown pommel top, fine quality Ivory grip having three band slanted wire binding. Gilt metal cross guard with fouled anchor to the centre. Housed in a deluxe model hammered scabbard with hammered hanging rings. Double edged blade with central fuller which has Damascus pattern. No makers trade mark or distributor mark. Blade 26 ¾ cms, overall 42 ½ cms. The blade has some light pitting to the tip of the blade area, scabbard is a darker brass and also quite long compared to the blade, possibly a later / period replacement. Ivory exemption declaration C12UZP1S. Please note, international bidders, make sure you can legally import items incorporating ivory into your nation.

#9 – Naval General Service Medal 1793-1840 for the Battle of Navarino (Лот: 8602)
Naval General Service Medal 1793-1840 for the Battle of Navarino, with one clasp Navarino, ‘Peter Musgrove’, medal has been broached at some point and has been reinstated with a copy clasp. eter Musgrove from Deeping, Lincolnshire was born c.1802 and commenced his Service with the Royal Navy on H.M.S Medina on 7th August 1826. He joined H.M.S. Musquito as an Able Seaman on 31st July 1827 and was present when the Turkish-Egyptian was defeated at Navario on 20th October 1827. Musquito suffered 2 dead and 4 wounded during the battle. He left Musquito on 20th October 1830 and joined Actaeon in December of the same year. Musgrove transferred to the Coastguard service on 6th October 1934 and was discharged on 23rd December 1856 having completed 32 years and 30 days service.
