    1845 Pattern British Infantry Officers Sword Attributed to Major Charles Edward Gore-Brown 2nd Volunteer Battalion Hampshire Regiment, fine example of a regulation 1845 pattern officers sword with gilded brass hilt having crowned VR cipher to the centre, shagreen covered grip with wire binding. Housed in polished plated scabbard with two hanging rings. Blade etched with standard foliage, ciphers etc. Lower section of the blade etched with initials ‘C GR’ and ‘2nd VOLT BATTN HANTS REGT’. Blade with some surface staining / rust, but generally good condition. Blade 81 ½ cms, overall 99cms. harles Edward Gore-Brown was commissioned in the 82nd Regiment of Foot, Ensign 16th December 1853, Lieutenant 1st September 1854, Captain 28th January 1862. On 28th July 1870 he appears as a Major in the 2nd Volunteer Battalion Hampshire Volunteer Rifles. Harts Army List from 1865 gives the following details – Captain Gore-Browne served with the 82nd foot regt, at the siege and fall of Sebastopol 2nd September 1855 (Medal & Clasp, Turkish medal). Served as Adjutant of the 49th in the North West Provinces in suppressing the Indian Mutiny in 1857-59, including the operations at Cawnpore under Winham (Horse shot). Commanded two companies of the regiment on the right of the Brigade on the 28th November – defeat there of the Gualior contingent on 6th December, present at the action of Khankur, defence of the jail of Shahjeanpore, and affairs subsequent to its relief (Medal).

    Rare George V Royal Tank Regiment Marked 1897 Pattern Officers Sword by Henry Wilkinson Attributed to Major Hugh Graham Neish Royal Tank Regiment, fine Infantry officers sword with George V cipher incorporated to the guard, shagreen covered grip with wire binding. Black leather portepee attached to the grip and housed in regimental pattern black leather scabbard. Blade remains in excellent condition which retains much of the original polished finish. Etched with standard decoration and additional regimental badge of the Royal Tank Regiment. Initials ‘H.C.N’ etched to the reverse panel. Blade by Wilkinson sword and numbered to the spine ‘46507’. Vendor attributes the sword to Major Hugh Graham Neish. Blade 82cms, overall 102cms. A rare and hard to find sword.he charity for blind ex-servicemen and women St Dunstan’s gives the following information in the St Dunstan’s Review – ‘Hugh Graham Neish Royal Tank Regiment – Major H. G. Neish, of London, died at Pearson House on the 15th April, 1975. He was 77 years of age. He served in the Regular Army from 1915 until he retired in 1948. His sight ultimately failed and he was very seriously ill by the time he came to St. Dunstan’s and went to Pearson House a few months ago. He was a single man with no immediate family.

Some staining and grease to the blade. The blade measures 76 ½ cms, overall 101 ½ cms.

Two piece ivory grips with fine rich gilt fittings and original bullion officers sword knot attached. Housed in its plated dress scabbard with single hanging ring. Slightly curved slender blade with fine blue and gilt etched decoration, central inscription ‘EL CIRCULO MERCANTIL DE MELILLA AL EXCMO TENIENTE GENERAL D.LUIS AIZPURU’ (THE MERCANTILE CIRCLE OF MELILLA TO HIMSELF LIEUTENANT GENERAL D.LUIS AIZPURU). Toledo made blade. The blade measures 78cms, overall 94cms. eneral Aizpuru was born in 1857. In 1874 he entered the Infantry Academy and in 1915 he was named general commander of Melilla, succeeding Francisco Gómez Jordana . He was Chief of the Central General Staff of the Army between January 7, 1922 and July 28, 1923 and Minister of War between May 26 and September 15, 1923 in two García Prieto governments, immediately prior to the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera . He held the position of high commissioner of Spain in Morocco between 1923 and 1924. He was a member of the National Consultative Assembly of the dictatorship between 1927 and 1930.
