#521 – WW2 British Royal Corps of Signals Battle Damaged Steel Helmet (Лот: 9113)
WW2 British Royal Corps of Signals Battle Damaged Steel Helmet, a true time capsule which highlights the horrors of war. The helmet is a untouched example of a WW2 British steel combat helmet which retains much of its original rough textured combat paint finish. To the side is the original early pattern regimental flash for the Royal Corps of Signals, white/dark blue/ green. The helmet shell has been peppered with bullet and shrapnel holes, mostly to the back section of the helmet. Interior does retain the original 1940 dated liner, which does have some damage that was caused by the bullet and shrapnel damage. Helmet also has the original chinstrap which has also been damaged by the impacts. The brim of the helmet has the original owners service number inked, ‘14348225’. We would hope that the helmet was not being worn at the time of the damage being caused, from a quick casualty check, we have been unable to find a casualty with this service number. t is our opinion that this helmet was probably a lucky souvenir of the original owner, brought back after the evacuation from Dunkirk, the reason for our assumption is that we are aware of two similar battle damaged British helmets which were also brought home by the original owners from Dunkirk, we would have assumed if it was from 1944 onwards, the helmet would probably have been discarded in France. superb time capsule of a steel helmet which has certainly seen front line service.
