Interesting 1796 Pattern Cavalry Troopers Sword with History Relating to the Major Rogers Rocket Battery at Waterloo, regulation blade 81cms, regulation hilt (grip covering missing) in its iron scabbard. Both hilt and scabbard are heavily pitted, and the blade is well worn. Glued to the scabbard is a printed note stating the sword was ‘ R A Rocket Corps, from Major Rogers’ Battery at Waterloo – Given to the Royal United Services Museum by Major-General R. Wilson’. The Waterloo Roll Call gives the following information, ‘Was near Picton when the latter was killed at Waterloo, and was the last survivor of Rogers’s Waterloo Battery. Was superintendent at Shoeburyness during the Crimean War. D. as Maj-Gen, retd f p 24th Oct 1876’.

#319 – Unusual Group of Early British Military Buttons Recovered from the River Thames (Лот: 8911)
Unusual Group of Early British Military Buttons Recovered from the River Thames, London and adjacent docks by Ronald Goode formerly displayed at the Rotherhithe Pumphouse Educational & Heritage Museum (closed 2011). Notable examples are 11th Light Dragoons (1790s), Duke of York’s 5th West India Regiment (1806-1808), 60th (Royal Americans) Rifle Corps (1775-1785, no shank), Rotherhithe Rifle Volunteers, 2nd Queens Regt. (worn in Egypt c.1800), 3rd Scots Guards (c.1780), 55th Aberdeenshire, North British Militia (c.1805), 19th North Yorkshire Foot (c.1790), 35th Sussex Foot (two, c.1770 and c.1780, no shanks). N.B. Many of the prison hulks, former warships, were broken up in this stretch of the Thames which may account for the unusual mix of military buttons recovered. All in excavated condition as found, display list and details included. (27 items)

Other ranks regimental collar badges and brass shoulder titles HANTS/T/CARABINIERS. Regimental tunic buttons to the front. Partial blanket lined interior. Generally good condition. #320 – Scarce Assembly of Early British Royal Naval Buttons (Лот: 8912)
Scarce Assembly of Early British Royal Naval Buttons, recovered from the River Thames, London, mainly near Beatson’s breakers yard at Bull’s Head Dock, Rotherhithe where the Royal Navy ships HMS Temeraire and HMS Bellerophon and many East India Company vessels were broken up in the late 18th to mid-19th centuries. These buttons were found by Ronald Goode and formerly displayed at the Rotherhithe Pumphouse Educational & Heritage Museum (closed 2011) with his original, uncertain descriptions included. RN examples include Masters, Captains, Surgeons from different periods from 1774 to 1820, also Greenwich Hospital Service (1800-1815). Other related buttons include an interesting French ‘Equipage de Flotille No. 23’ (1810-1815), RN Lieutenant c1748, Royal Dock Yard Battalion (1847-1857) and Surrey Commercial Dock. All in excavated condition as found, RN buttons Nos. 1A, 1B, 2, 6 & 8 lacking shanks, display list included. (22 items)

American Garand Rifle Bayonet, good example of an early cut down example with the original grips, steel cross guard and muzzle ring, housed in the original scabbard of issue. Cut down early pattern blade with fuller going all the way to the point. Blade with issue stamps and date 1942. Generally good condition.

WW2 British Officers Service Dress Uniform of Captain K Berry Royal Artillery, standard four pocket officers service dress tunic with brass regimental buttons, bronze officers service dress collar badges, metal rank pips and medal ribbons for service in the Far East. Accompanied by matching service dress trousers. Remains in generally good condition. Vendor acquired this uniform from Captain Berry’s family and a copy of a photograph of him wearing this actual tunic will accompany the lot.

Official Royal Navy Photograph Album of HMS Lancaster 1910-1912, the large photograph album with cloth board covers having tooled details ‘H.M.S. LANCASTER – MEDITERRANEAN PHOTOGRAPHIC ALBUM DIARY OF EVENTS AND IMPORTANT PLACES VISITED DURING THE COMMISSION 1910-1912’. Album begins with images of the ship and the officers, then continues to document the service of the ship with official photographs including training manoeuvres, local scenes in various ports and cities, awards and physical training activities, etc. All the pictures having a typed description underneath. 200 images in total. Would appear to be the photographs of Domonic Foti. Album spine covering now absent but otherwise good condition.

British Lee Metford Bayonet Recovered From Boer Trenches on the Bank of the Tugela River, the semi relic bayonet has the remains of the wooden grips, blade marked with acceptance stamps, ‘SANDERSON SHEFFIELD’ and date 8 96 for August 1896. Attached to the bayonet is a typed label which states, ‘THIS ENGLISH LEE METFORD BAYONET (DATED AUG. 1896 OR 8. 96) WAS FOUND BY ME DAVID McKAY IN 1973 NEAR THE REMAINS OF THE OLD BOER TRENCHES ON THE BANK OF THE TUGELA RIVER SOUTH AFRICA. (THE BATTLE OF COLENSO DEC. 15 1899) IT WAS MORE THAN LIKELY CAPTURED BY THE BOERS AND USED AS A TENT PEG OR WHAT EVER. (NOTE HOW ONE END IS FLATTENED)’ signed in ink by David McKay and dated 1982.
