Historically Interesting Grouping of Photograph Albums Belonging to the Founding Members of the Royal British Legion, Lieutenant Colonel George Crosfield, Detailing His Pre-War Visit to Germany and Meeting with Adolf Hitler and Other Leaders of the Third Reich, contained in three period albums which are stacked with private snapshot and official photographs from the various meetings and tours he took part in. The first album starts with interesting images taken in 1936 at the FIDAC congress in Warsaw, Poland. Then moves on to a fine photograph of the delegation from the British Legion, all identified, at a ceremony in Rome, Italy in 1936. Many items of ephemera and postcards from the time are placed inside the album. In 1937 he was part of a delegation which met with high ranking officials from the Third Reich including Hermann Goring, many interesting images at the tomb of the unknown soldier in Munich. Other good images of Third Reich parades and ceremonies with dignitaries. Lunches at Berchtesgaden with NSDAP leaders and eventual meeting with Adolf Hitler. The second and third albums in the grouping cover the 1939 period and then into the later stages of WW2 and early post war period. Many good images again of parades, the royals, Churchill, etc. Some family images in these albums and also a number of items of ephemera. Crosfield also attended the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth in 1953 and an admission card made out to him is included as well as some full page photographs of her wedding to Prince Philip. A very interesting grouping of albums. Lieutenant Colonel George Crosfield was a veteran of WW1 where he served first with the South Lancashire regiment and then with the Royal Welch Fusiliers. He was wounded in action and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order amongst other awards.
