    North West Frontier Royal Engineer Attributed Officers Foreign Service Wolseley Helmet, fine example of a tropical cork cloth covered Wolseley helmet made by Hawkes & Co. The helmet with thick folded cloth pagri to the centre. Leather trim to the brim of the helmet. Housed in the original storage tin with painted details ‘LIEUT S. C. R. DUFFY 38TH A.A BN R.E (T.A)’. Accompanied by a photograph of the officer in the North West Frontier and a photograph of his sweetheart. Helmet remains in very good overall condition. Lieutenant Samuel Charles Rhodes Duffy was born on 26th December 1896 in Liverpool. He was a member of the 1/6th Liverpool Regiment Territorial Force. Rising through the ranks from private to corporal. On 25th February 1915 he landed in France. For service in WW1 he was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant Royal Lancaster regiment 31st July 1917. He landed in India on 18th May 1918 and joined the 2/95 Russel’s Infantry. He rejoined the Territorials, 1936 Lieutenant 38th (Kings Regt) A.A. Battalion Royal Engineers (T.A). He rose to the rank of Captain in 1939. Duffy died on 24th September 1986. Helmet accompanied by research.

  • #285 – WW2 AMERICAN 6TH JUNE 1944 POW 101ST AIRBORNE DIVISION 377TH PARACHUTE FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION PRISONER OF WAR LOG (Лот: 7637)

    WW2 AMERICAN 6TH JUNE 1944 POW 101ST AIRBORNE DIVISION 377TH PARACHUTE FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION PRISONER OF WAR LOG, the log belonged to 32114245 Henry L Wisowaty from Brooklyn, New York, who was captured on D-Day, 6th June 1944 and held as a prisoner of war in Germany until being released, he was held at Stalag 3C, Brandenburg. His details have been inked to the inside page, he lists fellow members of his battery who were killed when he was captured, ‘Those who died so others could live’. He has a inked list of his battery roster, interesting war predictions (presuming when they thought it would end), details of fellow prisoners in the camp, contents of his X-Mas parcel in 1944, various newspaper cuttings and items of ephemera. Interesting archive kept by him. 377th Parachute Field Artillery battalion was first activated on 16 August 1942 at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana, as the 377th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion (377th PFAB). The 377th PFAB, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin Weisberg, participated in the development of doctrine for the employment of Parachute Artillery. After training in the United States, the battalion sailed to England, arriving in Liverpool on 18 October 1943. During late 1943 and early 1944, the battalion participated in training in preparation for Operation Overlord. On 6 June 1944, the 377th PFAB participated in Operation Overlord, the Normandy Invasion, parachuting onto Drop Zone A east of St. Mere Eglise in support of the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment. The drop went poorly, and the battalion lost 11 of its 12 75mm pack howitzers. The Paratroopers of the battalion fought as infantrymen until replacement howitzers arrived on 14 June 1944. The battalion executive officer, Major Louis H. Cotton, was wounded during the drop and had to be evacuated.

  • #286 – WW2 German Eastern Front Casualty Wehrpass (Лот: 5283)

    WW2 German Eastern Front Casualty Wehrpass, issued to Unteroffizier Hermann Rutsch, issued in July 1937. Civilian photograph to the inside of the book. He served during WW1 from 1916 until 1918 and then in various Landes-Schützen Ers Battalions before being wounded on the eastern front in 1942, finally dying from his wounds. Awards noted in the book is the 1914-18 honour cross. Various other entries in the book. Accompanied by a card outer cover and a number of original black and white photographs including one of his grave and his funeral procession .

    Rare Royal Air Force East of Malta Flying Helmet, being the khaki cloth covered cork flying helmet with folded cloth pagri to the centre. Interior with the original ear flaps having chamois lining. Leather sweatband with gilt tooled details and the rear has the remains of the goggle securing strap. Generally good condition example of a rare flying helmet worn by aircrew of the RAF in the 1930’s on the North West Frontier.

    WW1 GERMAN BATTLE DAMAGED BODY ARMOUR (SAPPENPANZER), interesting example of a 1st pattern German body armour breast plate (sappenpanzer) which retains much of its original field grey paint finish. The armour has been pierced by a piece of shrapnel, probably killing the original owner of the armour. Reverse has the original metal clip fittings for the straps to support the lower armour plates. Breast plate is marked with a number ‘2’ in black. Generally good untouched example. Worn by machine gunners and snipers in fixed positions.

    WW2 German Armed Forces Wehrpass Grouping, issued to Fritz Sturm who entered military service in 1938. He was posted to 3rd Schutzen Kompanie 213 in 1940, he served in various units including various companies of Genadier Kompanie Infantry Ersatz battalion 213. Civilian photograph to the inside. He served in various places and including the Atlantic Coast. He was wounded a number of times before being discharged in 1943. Accompanied by a 1st pattern German work book issued to him and a identity disc. Also accompanied by a number of wartime and post war documents relating to both Fritz Sturm and other members of his family and also a series of original snapshot photographs from his service in WW2.

    Field Marshall Bernard Law Montgomery, 1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein, KG, GCB, DSO, PC, Black Royal Tank Regiment Beret and Associated Ephemera from The Montgomery Club Brussels, the famous black Royal Tank Regiment beret with bullion embroidered generals insignia to the centre and standard Royal Tank regiment beret badge. Leather trim to the beret. The black cloth interior with KANGOL WEAR LIMITED, broad arrow and date 1944. Beret is size marked ‘7’. The beret is accompanied by a selection of ephemera relating to the Montgomery Club in Brussels, snapshot photograph of Montgomery wearing his black beret walking in Brussels and copy of ‘Forward to Victory’ with the printed messages from Montgomery to the troops, inside front page with inked details of a former member of the famous Desert Rats. The grouping was all acquired together. Field Marshall Montgomery was made famous by wearing the black Royal Tank Regiment beret in public as opposed to a service dress cap like most Generals. He used to give berets to various staff, veterans associations and clubs etc. We believe this beret to be one of these types.

The eagle measure 7 ½ ‘ high, 5 ½ ‘ width. Marked to the reverse ‘HB’ in a circle. Four drill holes to the reverse. Generally good condition.
