WW2 British Officers Patrol Tunic of Lieutenant, Later Major Alan Lockhart McCall, Taken Prisoner in 1940, Made Numerous Escape Attempts Before Being Sent to the Famous Prisoner of War Camp Colditz, Where Again he Tried to Escape Before Being Liberated in 1945, blue four pocket Highland doublet patrol tunic with regimental buttons of the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders. Above the breast pocket are medal ribbon bars for 1939-45 star and 1939-45 war medal with MID oakleaf. Tunic with gilt metal rank crowns to shoulders. Black cloth lining with the interior having the tailors label with inked name ‘A L McCall’. Remains in very good overall condition.Lieutenant McCall was Mentioned in Despatches for his wartime service, being listed in the London gazette on 20th December 1945. The recommendation for the MID was as follows, ‘Lieut Alan Lockhart McCall (95528) 1 Cameron Highlanders, 2 division. Following his capture at La Bassee, France, on 18 May 40, Lt McCall was imprisoned in Germany. With three other officers, Lt McCall tried in Aug 41 to escape from OFLAG VIIC (LAUFEN) by breaking through a wall from the inside of an incinerator for the third day’s work they were seen from a window by a German. Between Nov 41 and September 42 Lt. McCall assisted in the digging of four tunnels, all of which were discovered before completion. At EICHSTATT in June 43, Lt McCall participated in a mass breakout through a tunnel. After being free for 10 days he was caught and transferred to OFLAG IV C (Colditz), the persistent escapers camp. Here again Lt McCall worked on a tunnel for two months; this also was discovered before it could be used.On 16 Apr 45 he was liberated at Colditz by an American unit.’The prisoner of war camp at Colditz is one of the most famous prisoner of war camps of WW2. The camp was set up for the most persistent escapers, including the famous fighter pilot Sir Douglas Bader.

KRIEGSMARINE ISSUED ADOLF HITLER FUHRER STANDARTE / FLAG, being a very large 240 x 240 printed double sided cotton flag with large central swastika and armed forces and pollical eagles to each corner. The flag has the taped edge with Marine acceptance stamp, ‘Führer Standarte 240 – 240’ and machine embroidered tailors label. Some scattered mothing and wear but generally still an impressive flag probably flown on a battleship or cruiser during a visit by Adolf Hitler.

Great War 1917 Isle of Wight Rifles Other Ranks Foreign Service Helmet, fine example of a khaki cloth covered cork foreign service helmet with thick folded cloth pagri having regimental badge affixed to the side. Complete with the original brown leather chinstrap. Green cloth covering to the underside of the helmet, tan leather sweatband. Interior with inked WD broad arrow and ink circular stamp with 1917 date. Helmet remains in very good overall condition. Late Rod Flood collection.

THIRD REICH LUFTWAFFE OFFICERS SWORD, good example of a early nickel silver type sword with blue leather covering to the grip and original wire binding. Pommel with gilt mobile swastika to the centers, cross guard with central swastikas. Housed in its original blue leather covered scabbard with nickel silver mounts having dark patina. Fine polished straight blade with makers trademark of SMF and acceptance stamp. The blade 28 ¼ ‘, overall 36’. Good patina to the exterior fittings.

Interior with size stamps and issue date 1943. Accompanied by a war economy khaki wool field service cap with other ranks brass regimental cap badge. (2 items)

Many good images. Accompanied by a selection of items of paperwork including a black grade wound badge citation dated May (Mai) 1944, shooting record book, RAD cloth sleeve badge and other items of paperwork. 123 images in the album.

WWII GERMAN LUFTWAFFE FLAK SECTION KETTLE DRUM COVER, fine example of a five panel kettle drum cover with central Luftwaffe eagle picked out in black stitching and silver bullion set upon a red felt cloth backing, two Luftwaffe blue / grey cloth panels either side of the centre. Fine quality silver lace and silver wire fringing to the lower sections of the skirt and blue cloth ties to the top. Reverse with some fading and staining but otherwise a good example.

WW2 GERMAN LUFTWAFFE SINGLE DECAL STEEL COMBAT HELMET, good example of a M-40 pattern steel combat helmet shell with much of its original dark blue paint finish to the exterior and interior of the shell. Helmet has approximately 70% of its 2nd pattern Luftwaffe eagle decal still present. Helmet is complete with the original leather liner to the interior. Helmet shell is stamped ‘ET64’ and ‘1180’. Generally good untouched example.

IMPRESSIVE IMPERIAL GERMAN VETERANS ASSOCIATION FLAG FOR THE STATE OF WURTTEMBERG, fine quality and large Imperial German flag with one side having the German national colours (black / white / red) with black Iron Cross laid to the centre and around in embroidered bullion wire lace ‘Mit Gott für König und Vaterland’, the reverse side has large finely embroidered state emblem of Wurttemberg within an embroidered oak leaf and laurel leaf wreath and ribbons above and below with embroidered ‘Krieger – Verein’ and ‘Schäftersheim’ with date underneath of ‘1894’. Gold fringe wire to three sides and cloth tabs to the top edge. Some light staining and area of water damage to the reverse but overall an impressive display piece.
