FORMAL KNIGHTS CROSS OF THE IRON CROSS (RITTERKREUZ) CITATION OF LUFTWAFFE MAJOR RUDOLF MONS OF KG40 MISSING IN ACTION 26TH NOVEMBER 1943, the vellum citation has sadly been water damaged and has wrinkled and is torn in places. The gilt to the name has remained and the signature is still clear. The citation is dated 18th September but the date is missing, the award was issued in 1941. The citation has been mounted into a glazed frame with printed history of Major Rudolf Mons. He was an Austrian national who served with the Luftwaffe in KG40, he was responsible for the destruction and loss of a lot of allied shipping. He was awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross in 1941 for flying a total of 51 missions with the Fw 200. In that time he sank 63000 GRT of enemy shipping and damaged a further 32000 GRT.
