Rare WW1 German War Wounded Hospital Gas Mask, the very rare hood gas mask in its original container used for when wounded soldiers were taken to dressing stations in the event of a gas attack. The hood gas mask, manufactured in rubberised linen with two eyepieces and an aperture for screw in filter is rather shredded, attached to the mask is an old museum label, which reads ‘German gas helmet brought from France by Colonel’ with name indecipherable, with further wording ‘AA & QMG 7thDiv gave to me January 1917’ with signature. The mask comes with an associated metal storage tin for this type of mask, but the red cross emblem has worn away. This mask formed part of the late Michael Baldwin collection and was sold by C&T Auctioneers on 23rd May 2018 as part of his collection. The item was lot 260, at this time it was sold with a different tin to what it is now being offered. The mask is featured in the reference book ‘Feldzug 1918’ by Michael Baldwin.
