EDEN RIF: BRIG:’. Good overall condition. 19 year old Herbert Alexander Eden was born in Bermondsey and living in Hackney, London when he enlisted on 27th February 1915. He arrived in France on 31st August 1915 and on 25th September he was with the 9th Battalion Rifle Brigade in the trenches at Railway Wood. The attack on the German trenches started and 4.20am and Battalion was tasked with seizing and holding the enemy trenches, by the time the Battalion left the tranches later that day it numbered 4 Officers and 140 Other Ranks. Herbert Alexander Eden was reported as missing presumed dead during this attack and is remembered on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial in Ypres, Belgium.
