  • #7 – Scarce Imperial German / 1930’s Deluxe Pattern Military Academy Officials Parade Sword (Лот: 7196)

    Scarce Imperial German / 1930’s Deluxe Pattern Military Academy Officials Parade Sword, fine quality officers lion head sword with jewelled ruby eyes. Fine deep relief of oakleaves to the knuckle guard, cross guard with lion head finial and langet with crossed flaming torches. Reverse of the langet with deep cut / relief with shield for the owners initials to be engraved. Shagreen covered grip with wire binding. Housed in leather and plated fittings scabbard with staples to the reverse of the scabbard mounts and two hanging rings. Fine curved polish blade with etched decoration including trophy of arms. Makers details to the base of the blade under the langet, but this is not clear. Blade 74cms, overall 97cms. An interesting and unusual sword.

    A Fine Battle of Waterloo and Long Service Medal Pair to the 59th (2nd Nottinghamshire) Regiment, Waterloo medal, ‘SERJ. RICHARD WELLS, 2ND BATT. 95TH REG FOOT’, medal fitted with period replacement silver clip and ring suspension, Army Long Service and Good Conduct medal VR, 1st type, ‘R. WELLS, ACTING SERJT. MAJOR INVALID DEPOT 1838’, contact marks and edge bruising to the Waterloo medal. ichard Wells was born in the Parish of St Nicholas, Nottingham, and enlisted into the 2/59th Foot at Rye, Sussex, on 4 April 1809, aged 27, a frame knitter by trade and a volunteer from the Nottingham Militia. He enlisted directly in the rank of Sergeant and served ‘at Walcheren, at the battle of Vittoria 21 June 1813, storming of St Sebastian 31 August 1813, battles of Bidafsoa, Nivelle, Nive, Bayonne, Waterloo 18 June 1815, Cambray 24 June & surrender of Paris 6 July 1815’. Wells had been promoted to Colour-Sergeant in March 1815 and was, most fortunately for him, transferred to the 1st Battalion in January 1816. On 30 January 1816 the transport ship Seahorse, carrying the 2/59th to Cork was wrecked in Tranmore Bay with the loss of 12 officers and 264 men. In June 1823 he was appointed Acting Sergeant-Major to the Provisional Battalion at Fort Cumberland until 26 August 1825, when he became Acting Sergeant-Major at Chatham. On 24 September 1826 he transferred into the Newfoundland Veterans Companies and was appointed Acting Sergeant-Major, 25 December, of the Invalid Depot at Fort Pitt, Chatham.e was discharged on 9 May 1838, aged 56, with a total pensionable service of 31 years, 17 years 174 days as a Sergeant and 11 years 204 days as Sergeant-Major. The cause of his discharge was in consequence of ‘advanced age, rheumatism, want of activity and being subject to attacks of gout’. He received the L.S. & G.C. medal shortly afterwards and took up residence in Ordnance Place, Chatham, as an out-pensioner of Chelsea Hospital. On 15 November 1840, he was certified as being unable to leave his bed due to rheumatism and was to be visited to receive his pension. Sergeant-Major Richard Wells died on 1 December 1840. old with copied discharge papers.

YOUNG R.A.M.C.’ Born in Brighton, 20-year-old Henry John Young was living in London when he attested for the Royal Army Medical Corps on 23rd October 1901. He served for 351 days, including 332 days in South Africa, before his discharge on 8th October 1902. The medal and all 3 clasps are confirmed on the medal roll.

    Impressive Imperial German Blue Gilt and Damascus Presentation Garde Officers Grosser Hilt Sword, superb quality officers sword with Groser pattern lion head pommel with red jewelled eyes, heavy chiselled relief to the knuckle guard leading to the large langet having enamelled Garde starburst emblem. The reverse of the langet is engraved with the initials of the original owner. Large lion head finial to the cross guard. Shagreen grip with wire binding. Housed in its large steel scabbard with gilt brass bands and hanging rings. The thick deluxe piped back blade with Damascus and engraved with blue and gilt panels, the obverse ‘Wilhelmi s/r Vogt, Engers 1892’, reverse with trophy of arms and ‘Damaststahl Eisenhauer’. Spine of the blade also in gilt, engraved with oakleaves and ‘OTTO MERTENS, SOLINGEN’. Blade 84cms, overall 107cms. A superb example of a presentation sword with an impressive quality hilt.

    Waterloo Medal to a Sergeant in the 23rd Regiment of Foot, the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, 1815 Waterloo medal, steel clip and ring suspension, ‘SERJ. THOMAS DAVIS 23RD REGIMENT FOOT, R.W.F.’Accompanied by period miniature of the medal. 20-year-old Thomas Davis from Shrewsbury enlisted on 5th April 1801. Promoted to Corporal on 25th June 1804 and Sergeant on 14th August 1806 he was discharged to pension as Colour Sergeant on 18th December 1818 having served for 20 years and 169 days. At Waterloo he was in Captain Farmers Company.

CLEMENT R.A.M.C.’, edge bruise at 6 o’clock position. William George Clement from Holybourne in Hampshire attested for the Royal Army Medical Corps on 19th February 1900. Transferred to the Reserve on 18th February 1908 he was remobilised on 5th August 1914 serving until he transferred to Class Z Army Reserve on 4th February 1919. Medal and 3 clasps is confirmed ion the medal roll, he is also entitled to the Kings medal and a 1914 Star trio for his service in the Great War.
