An Interesting Hazara Campaign India General Service Medal to a Soldier in the Northumberland Fusiliers Who Was Reduced in Rank Twice, India General Service medal with clasp Hazara 1888, engraved naming,’1155 PTE J POWER 2ND BN NORTH’D FUS’ some scratches to the Regiment. James Power from St. Marys, near Dover attested for service on 13th June 1877 aged 17 years. He served for 12 years and 164 days, of which he spent 9 years and 326 days in India. Promoted to Sergeant on 1st January 1880, he was reduced to Corporal on 26th November following a Court Martial for neglect of duty. A note on his service records advises he was reduced to Private at his own request in November 1887 in order to avoid another trial by Court Martial. James Power was discharged on 23rd November 1889. Medal and clasp are confirmed on the roll for the 2nd Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers.

Partially curved blade with partial fuller to the back edge. Early WKC makers trademark to the base. The blade measures 78 ¼ cms. Some wear to the blade. Accompanied by a blackened scabbard, not for this sword. (2 items)

U.S. MODEL 1840 NCO SWORD & CROSS STRAP, ALSO USED BY MARINES, ricasso is mkd. ‘Emerson & Silver, Trenton N.J.’, the brass handle has a nice dark patina the the front & back guard were bent during the period for ease of use, the blade has no pitting but some dark spots, the black leather scabbard has brass brass mounts is very nice, the black leather cross strap is 2 1/4′ wide & has a brass circular eagle plate mounted to it, not counting the period modifications this is exc.

A Good Waterloo and Military General Service Medal Pair to the 15th (Kings) Hussars, Who Were Later Involved in the 1819 Peterloo Massacre, Waterloo medal, ‘SERJEANT WILLIAM FARR 15TH OR KINGS REG HUSSARS’, with steel clip and modified suspension, Military General Service medal with clasps Sahagun, Vittoria and Toulouse, ‘W. FARR TROOP SERJEANT MAJOR 15TH HUSSARS’. Generally good condition. illiam Farr from Phulston, Leicester attested for the 15th Hussars at Leicester on 27th December 1799. He served with the Regiment for a total of 28 years and 315 days and was present with the Regiment in the Peninsular war being present at the battles of Sahagan, Vittoria and Toulouse, medal and 3 clasps confirmed on the medal roll. He is also confirmed as present at Waterloo and is present on the medal roll. The Regimental History lists him in the ‘names of non-commissioned officers and privates who had specially signalised themselves in action in the Peninsula, South of France and at Waterloo’.t Waterloo the Regiment had 3 Officers and 25 Other Ranks killed.he Regiment were also involved in one of the darker parts of 19th century British history. On 16th August 1819 they were called upon by local magistrates the breakup a large crowd of around 60,000 to 80,000 men, women and children who had gathered on St Peter’s Field, Manchester, to demand political reform. Concerned that the gathering would end in riot or even rebellion a large number of Regular troops and Militia Yeomanry were deployed in the area. The crowd started to panic when Special Constables and Yeomanry were sent in to arrest key speakers, the Yeomanry drew their sabres and started slashing at the crowd to clear the way and to destroy banners and flags and at this point the 15th Hussars were then called upon to disperse the crowd. Within 10 minutes the crowd had been dispersed but at the civilian cost of 11 dead and more than 600 wounded.illaim Farr was discharged on13th December 1826 on account of his length of service and being worn out. He died aged 69 on 28th March 1849.

Queens South Africa Medal to the Royal Army Medical Corps, medal with 3 clasps, Cape Colony, South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902, impressed naming, ‘15241 PTE. F. COLE R.A.M.C.’ Frederick Cole was a 37-year-old Hospital Attendant from St. Pancras, London, when he attested for the Royal Army Medical Corps on 15th March 1901. He served for a total of 1 year and 169 days of which he was in South Africa for 1 year and 135 days serving at No.21 General Hospital. He was discharged on 2nd September 1902. Medal and all 3 clasps are confirmed on the rolls.

1897 Punjab Frontier Long Service Medal Pair to the Royal West Kent Regiment, India General Service Medal 1895-1902 with clasp Punjab Frontier 1897-98, ‘1507 COLOR S SERGT J. HOLLAND 1ST BTN RYL W KENT REGT.’, Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, EVII, ‘1507 C SERGT J.E. HOLLAND RL. W. KENT REGT.’ Remaining in good condition. Accompanied by a Khedive’s Star Medal, 1882 dated, reverse stamped ‘2451’, 1911 Coronation Medal, unnamed as issued on original pin fitting and a Regimental Medal, reverse engraved ‘1st BATT/THE QUEEN’S OWN/ROYAL WEST KENT/ BEST SHOT OF H COMPANY/1895’Born in Oswestry, Shropshire, 18-year-old James Edward Holland attested for the Royal West Kent Regiment on 16th June 1886 at Maidstone. He served for a total of 22 years and 108 days before his discharge on 30th September 1908 on termination of his 2nd period of engagement. During his service he spent 9 years and 81 days in India and is confirmed on the medal roll of the 1st Battalion Royal West Kents for the medal and Punjab clasp. His Long Service Medal was announced in Army Order 172 of 1904. It seems probable that the Regimental Medal in this lot was awarded to James Holland but we have not been able to confirm the relationship of the other 2 medals in this lot. James Holland died on 29th September 1944 in Troubridge.

#7 – Scarce Imperial German / 1930’s Deluxe Pattern Military Academy Officials Parade Sword (Лот: 7196)
Scarce Imperial German / 1930’s Deluxe Pattern Military Academy Officials Parade Sword, fine quality officers lion head sword with jewelled ruby eyes. Fine deep relief of oakleaves to the knuckle guard, cross guard with lion head finial and langet with crossed flaming torches. Reverse of the langet with deep cut / relief with shield for the owners initials to be engraved. Shagreen covered grip with wire binding. Housed in leather and plated fittings scabbard with staples to the reverse of the scabbard mounts and two hanging rings. Fine curved polish blade with etched decoration including trophy of arms. Makers details to the base of the blade under the langet, but this is not clear. Blade 74cms, overall 97cms. An interesting and unusual sword.
