Rare Third Reich SA (Sturmabteilung) Dagger with Full Ernst Röhm Dedication by C Linder, Solingen Merscheid, untouched as found example of an early pattern SA dress dagger with dark brown grip having the original eagle and enamel SA devices. Lower cross guard stamped with gau mark ‘Wf’. Housed in its original scabbard with patterned finish to the centre. Fitted with a leather single hanging strap and a larger central leather strap with two ‘D’ ring fittings. Lower scabbard chape dented. Double edged blade with standard motto ‘Alles fur Deutschland’. The reverse of the blade has the makers trademark and a well worn full Ernst Röhm dedication. Some wear to the inscription but this is consistent with the overall condition of the dagger and not a attempt to erase the dedication. The blade measures 22cms, overall 36 ½ cms. Overall a good untouched example of a rarely encountered maker for a Ernst Röhm dedicated dagger. The Ernst Röhm inscription daggers were produced and issued in 1934 to SA and SS members who joined before 31st December 1931 and had continued to serve throughout this period. The inscription translates to ‘In heartfelt comradeship Ernst Röhm’. When Röhm was removed from power and eventually killed, the order was given for these inscriptions to be removed and many members destroyed the blades by grinding the dedication off. Original examples do surface with partial erasure with his name removed, but very few survived with the full dedication intact.
